Fort Stanwix
Rome, New York
August 3, 2003
One of the few beastly hot and humid days we get in central New York.
We know how to pick them.
Off on an adventure - we drove to Rome, New York, to find Fort Stanwix.

It is in the middle of town.
To get ready for the bicentennial, it was decided to reconstruct this Revolutionary War fort.
The only original item is part of a hearth.
It is easily accessible, open to the public, free.

Interpreters provided information on the history of the fort.
They gave demonstrations of the brown-bess and flintlocks.

It was relatively cool in the barracks, and Leslie took a break.

The fort, stockade, and buildings are constructed of heavy timbers to be able to resist cannon balls.
